Let the Christmas countdown begin!

IT'S NEARLY CHRISTMAS!!!

O come, all ye faithful! Hark, the herald angel's sing!

Hello again! I realise that it's very soon (mere minutes!) after my introduction went up, but I am so full of Christmas cheer to bursting point, I knew I simply HAD to write something about my up-coming favourite holiday of the year! It's December, so that means I can start getting 'officially' excited now - right?

I also thought I ought to introduce myself a wee bit, just so any posts down the line aren't met with confused faces. So, here are a few facts about myself:

     - I am a student, living in the b-e-a-utiful city of Edinburgh! I feel incredibly lucky to have the chance to study and work here - despite it being a capital city 'n all, it's so compact and cosy, and STILL manages to have everything in you could possibly want! A bustling shopping scene, gardens, the Shore... let alone being invaded by some of the top comedians and artists for the festivals each year! Jealous, much?

     - I originally hail (is that how you spell that?) from bonnie Yorkshire, and it is indeed a lush place to come from. VERY proud of me Northern roots... but Edinburgh stills beats out, I'm afraid ;) Alas alack-a-day!

     - I am a musician. I come from a musical family, and it is my LIFE. Cheeesy... but honestly! I live and breathe the stuff. First and foremost a singer, but I dabble in a fair few other instruments, as well as teaching. Mainly classical, but I must confess my penchant for jazz, folk - and OF COURSE, musical theatre! So a lot of my posts may be quite music-related... just to warn ye!

     - I love baking. Terrible at it, but I still absolutely love it! Thank heaven for the Betty Crocker baking range, that's what I say!

Well that's enough background for now out-of-the-way - NOW, TO THE CHRISTMAS CHEER!

I'm living in a student flat this year with two others, and we've all decided that we'd love to decorate the place - but we're having to do with our student budget! Have you got any good ideas of what we can do? How should we make the place look/feel all cosy and festive? Do please let me know in the comments below.

I absolutely adore the season, despite me not being a Christian any more - I was brought up into Christianity by my Ma, and my Da being athiest. As of the last 5 years or so (Ha! Jason Robert Brown reference!) I count myself as Agnostic, but with Christian morals - i.e. 'common sense'. I still work in churches as a singer, however - religion can be such an influential thing on composers, and from that has come some of the greatest musical works ever written.

All that aside, I can still see how much the celebration of Jesus' birth means to so many people - and the story of him dying for our sins compels nearly the whole world to remember how to treat one another, with compassion and friendliness.

So, my top few faves of Christmas:

Reason no.1: Family. Christmas has, and always will be, a time of family and close friends for me - and I've been lucky enough thus far to have been surrounded by them each year.

Reason no. 2: Snow is just beautiful, ain't it? The crisp whiteness of a blanket, covering a whole town can be breath-taking. Slush not so much, but... shhh. Deal with that later.

Reason no.3: CHRISTMAS DINNER. 'NUF SAID. Mmm... pigs in blanket! Scrummy!

And, if I ever meet that special man in my life - I hope he's out there somewhere! - I'm sure I'll be able to add a 'romantic kiss under mistletoe' to this list. Mwaaaaah.

So what about you? What are your top things you love about Christmas? I'd love to hear some of your plans - I honestly get so giddy about the season, but I'm sure that I'm not the only one ;) Do let me know below - and best wishes for the holiday season!

Toodles!
